During the time obama says his mother was accepting food stamps she would have been (circa 1974-1977) pursuing her PHD, and her children at that time were living full-time with her mother who happened to be Vice President of the Bank of Hawaii, and why didn’t he mention usage of food stamps in either of his autobiographies?

Plenty of people live without food stamps, especially if their children are living full time with someone else, I suppose she never thought of taking work to supplement ?
I get SO sick of this lie, His mother was an Archaeologist, and his Grand mother was a bank executive. He had a stepfather who raised him and was also a bank exec. If he grew up poor, then the rest of the country must be homeless( I only wish I was that poor. He didn’t go to school on scholarships. I Saudi Prince paid for and got him into Harvard.
Her son is going to be the next president. I guess she did something right.

I was on unemployement and worked under the table
but my girlfriend (lady friend()) as she was older then me
got food stamps for her four kids..so it helps to put food
on the table..but UNemployment is not enough and
I got a job six nights a week as a bartender..so free beer
and foods for me..but under the table it taste better when its free

Same reason why some of your friends or family members use food stamps, because wages are low and cost of living is high, so they can't make ends meet. When I had my first child, we had food stamps for a year until I was lucky enough to get an assistant manager's job at a convienience store. It doesn't make you a bad person, does it?

If you were receiving food stamps would you annouce it to the world? Don’t be a dumb a$$$$ some people that are on welfare have truly fallen on hard times and are not proud of receiving welfare.
So don’t be an idiot and concentrate on issues that actually matter. Whether his family received welfare or not, is completely irrelevant. That’s what I hate about republicans, can’t you guys focus on issues of substance? Issues that are relevant to our lives? Why must you only concentrate on personal attacks like a 5 year old?

Go look at the massive files at the Chicago Tribune on Obama. Voter intimidation, voter fraud, ACORN, bullying, money laundering, Ayres, Wright,Rezko, Khalidi, Monsour, and on and on. But they sweep it all under the rug and act like none of it happened to get him elected. Now are these the actions of REAL Americans ? No ! Tread lightly, do you know how many single mothers get assistance from the government in this country, especially when they are trying to educate themseleves (and by the way, even those with full time jobs don't make enough and often get assistance)
Educating oneself is a good thing remember, I thought republicans encouraged that?

A PhD is a full time commitment, i.e. at least 40+ hours a week. It doesn’t leave you much time for working another job and I don’t know anyone who managed to feed, clothe and house themself on the earnings from 15 hours a week at McDonalds or whatever.

Although I have never had to use food stamps or get any governmental help in my entire life (I was one of the lucky ones), food stamps are there for people less fortunate then myself.. I would NEVER down ANYONE who would lower their own self pride for their childrens needs..
You are making typical republican assumptions that everyone is screwing the system… There is a very good reason for food stamps and MOST use this system as it was set up for.
BTW.. Why are you downing Obama for how he was raised???? Does his mother being on food stamps reflect what he has grown into? Or are you just looking for something to justify your hate for him??
Do you look down your perfect nose at everyone who is not as fortunate as you?? You must sneer at 70% of America if you judge them by ever having to use governmental assistance at one point in their lives.

Here is the Time article written by Joe Klein back in 2006, long before Obama decided to run for president.
Here is the key excerpt from the article:
“For example, I was going to a fancy prep school, and my mother was on food stamps while she was getting her Ph.D.”
That is what Obama said. He went to a fancy private school that today costs $15,000 a year — and his mother was studying for a Ph.D.

Well I think there is really something showing in the way you asked this question. I think what is more appalling is the way in which others responded with disrespect and dishonor. Personally, what does it really matter? His mother struggled and she struggled through alot. I would love to personally see you go through the same situation and have such a clear objective view as you are simply claiming from a position of looking on the inside. I seriously doubt you, yourself have ever endured something like that in those times. But yet and still I cannot assume because that would be just wrong; just as you should not assume what exactly his mother went through to get him where he is today. So she had food stamps, he has said this many times throughout his campaign, does it matter that it is not in a book?
How disappointing the behavior of people has fallen during this election year. It is almost like self respect and dignity has given rise to ignorance and meaness. I think it just shows more how judgmental and crude some people really are.
