I read something about "indoctrination"? And a majority of parents are against it. I think I heard the President spoke to children about how to support him instead of how to succeed and so on. Does anyone know about this issue?
I really rely on you guys with political knowledge to clarify these issues for me, since I have always gotten the correct answer and I appreciate it.
When is that video going to be shown so that I don’t send my kids to school that day?
I think this is a hollow victory for the Republicans. First, most schools have dediced not to show the speech. However, Reagan and Bush Sr did speek to school students by TV and that was mostly shown. For the most part this is no big deal for Obama. He’s too mello and the speech would have been typical middle line uniting style that Obama does.
The problem is that the republican strategy seems to be focused around doing whatever Obama doesn’t want. So Obama wants to speek to the kids and the Repubilcans aim to stop it.
It’s one of those things where the Repbuilcans are damned if they block and damned if they didn’t. First, Obama is a speeker, and he inspires and he impassions. So by alarming the far right they can get enough ruckus and complaints to scare schools out of showing the speech. This certainly has worked in most school districts. But, they also have made a big fuss on an issue that has not happened yet. Instead of complaining about a left wing speech that happened, they have essentially blocked at every community in america what will end up being a rather centrist, bland, ordinary speech (Because obama will change it before he speaks).
See, about 80% of everyone doesn’t care one way or another to lift a finger. If schools show Obama or Bin Laden or happy days they don’t even care. But about 10% left and 10% right do care a lot and no matter what is said. Sometimes only 1%. So you figure a little more than half of america is inspired by Obama to some degree and they are pretty mello about the political fighting. But watching this result in a rather typical event being cancelled and banned will a side to the conservatives that may not be flatering. In other words, 80% of Americans are saying "REALLY?", "WHAT’S YOUR PROBLEM REPBULICANS?".
I think this style the repbulicans are using against the president at town halls and with this speech will back fire. I mean Obama just takes the hits because Obama knows that no matter what he is the President. Further Obama has the majority of americans and the majority of congress on his side. So Obama can just play it cool.
So he takes the hits but he wins the battles (because he had nothing to lose if a school didn’t show his speech). Eventually he’ll let his attackers (the Repbulicans) lose face and spark outrage. I don’t know when or what will cause this but it’s bound to happen that one day the efforts to loudly block Obama will just humiliate the Republican party.
